Knuckle Rumbler Party at the Ghost Room

Well kids, word on the street is those adorable and industrious little interns over at Knuckle Rumbler put tonight's Ghost Room show together without any help from Mom and Dad. As someone who has NO idea how something like that is done I just want to pinch their little cheeks and tell 'em how proud I am of them. In lieu of the pinching and hugging I've decided helping to promote might be more useful. Although, I'm not gonna lie, I still might have to pinch some rosy little cheeks and I don't mean their faces y'all!

Anywho, all of the bands tonight are local and/or have local ties so consider this a sort of best of the best according to the KR interns. Shapes Have Fangs will be headlining tonight and will let you know how Garage-Surf-Indie-Rock is done in the middle of Texas (for those of you who were wondering).

Rayon Beach will also be playing a set tonight. If you like your garage-rock to be raucous and soaked in reverb and irony then you're going to love Rayon Beach. Fun fact about Rayon, it is produced from naturally occurring polymers, it is neither a truly synthetic fiber nor a natural fiber; it is a semi-synthetic. Fun fact about the beach, it's sandy or rocky depending on where you are.

Even though Eets Feats and The Daze play first and second, respectively, you'll still want to be there in time for their sets. For one, they are quality bands and for another there's alleged to be some gratis booze that is first come first served. Specifically the first 100 people through the door will receive a free adult beverage, most likely of the Lone Star Beer variety, which is certainly nothing to scoff at.

So, basically, the long and short of tonight's show is for $5 you get 4+ hours of live music, the chance to get gratis beer, you can have your photo taken by a professional (or two) and even win tickets to other Knuckle Rumbler events. All of this without setting foot on 6th Street OR Red River! You gotta love that right?

For the record, that song title for The Daze is totally me editorializing I don't know the proper title for that tune.

Free Show at le Scoot Tomorrow

Those of you who know me, know I love free stuff and I'm guessing that you feel the same way. It's with that spirit of gratis that I offer you this RSVP link to see Shapes Have Fangs at the Scoot Inn. The show is sponsored by Sailor Jerry's spiced rum, so who knows maybe the entry fee won't be the only free-ness you experience at the show? If you've never seen Shapes Have Fangs you can expect some jangly, Nuggets-style psychedelic rock 'n roll. You might even stash them in the same bin with another great Austin band, the Strange Boys but maybe with a LITTLE less reverb. Just a little less though.

Joining Shapes Have Fangs on the bill will be more psychedlic rock from another Austin band in the form of Rayon Beach. I wouldn't put them in the same grouping as Shapes Have Fangs simply because they don't sound as retro to me. Their sound has more sampling, layering and the like. It's not a big leap though from one band to the other, you're definitely going to get your Psych on at the Scoot Wednesday night.

Bad Sports are traveling down from Denton to play tomorrow night's show. They use lots of reverb on the vocals and their sound is retro but I wouldn't, necessarily, call it psych-rock. To me it has too much chugga-chugga guitar to be psych-rock. It's kind of like if the Donnas were dudes who liked reverby vocals. The Ramones? We'll let you decide!

So, if you want to go out on a Wednesday night and let's face it, you do, don't forget to RSVP at the top of this post and head on over to the Scoot Inn.

Riverboat Gamblers, Ume + More

Did y'all know that the Riverboat Gamblers are going to be playing the Van's Warped Tour this summer? Well, they are but you can catch them this weekend at Austin's own Red 7. In related news, looks like, the Gamblers will be making yet ANOTHER line-up change, with their current drummer parting ways with the band after their San Diego gig. This is not official news, but I happen to know the Gamblers drummer and I know that he is bowing out. Don't worry though, technically there is only one original member left in the band anyway, so I'm sure a line-up change won't have any adverse effects. However, this weekend will be your last chance to catch the band, in Austin, in its current formation. Tickets for Saturday night's show at Red 7 will set you back a cool $10.

I'm almost reluctant to post about Ume again, but I just love them so much and I want you to love them too. I had planned to film them performing last week during one, of their two, free-week gigs but alas I did not. So, that means not only am I writing about Ume again, but I'm posting a video I've posted before. If you're not impressed with them from hearing their songs or seeing these videos don't be put-off it's in their live performance where they really shine.

If these two bad-ass, Austin bands leave you wanting more Austin music fear not for you can also catch Shapes Have Fangs at Red 7. They'll be going on before Ume but after the Altars, whom I know nothing about really.
