Austin-based soul-pop band Suite 709 will play Antone's Saturday night to celebrate the release of their debut full-length LP Night and Day. The record was produced by Dwight Baker who has worked with platinum-selling artists like Kelly Clarkson and Blue October. Tickets for Saturday night's show at Antone's are only $10 or you can pay $30 and receive an autographed copy of Night & Day on both vinyl and CD. Justin Townes Earle lastest album, Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now, is his most intimate record to date. It has Jazz, Country, and Americana influences and feels like his most personal work. Imagine Van Morrison and Dr. John collaborating with Ryan Adams and you are getting close to the sound of NGCTWYFAMN. I don't know what informed the songwriting for JTE's latest album but it sounds like he was in a relationship and they drifted a part. This isn't a typical break-up record, I mean just look at the title, that isn't a you cheated sort of situation that's a what happened to us situation. Shit got real y'all and JTE is exorcising the demons of love. Catch him at Antone's tonight, tickets will only set you back $16.

If you are going to see Justin Townes Earle at Antone's tonight, promise me you will arrive early enough to see Tristen. If you haven't seen me write about Tristen then you haven't been paying attention. I adore her and I want everyone to love her as much as I do. I have seen her perform three times and each time was with a different combination of musicians. One of those performances was just Tristen, Buddy and a drum machine it was good but to get the true experience it's best to hear her with a full band. Well, on this tour Tristen will be backed by a full band and she does not mess around in choosing her touring musicians. She is based in Nashville and she selects some of the city's best available talent to propel her music. At the moment, Tristen is still supporting her 2011 release, Charlatans at the Garden Gate but you can expect to hear lots of unreleased material as well. She is a prolific writer and she refuses to play the same song cycle over and over.
I mentioned a few weeks ago that shows in September and October will make up for the show-drought of summer. It won't make up for the actual drought, or the fact that today is the 90th day of 2011 that it's been at least 100 degrees outside but let's get back to the matter at hand. Whatchu doin this weekend grrrrl? I only ask because you've got a butt-load of options. As I mentioned yesterday there are the Mohawk anniversary shows happening all weekend, starting tonight. However, there are lots of other options ranging in location and genre. Let's focus on Friday night first. You can yacht-rock it out with your dad at ACL Live where Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonals will be performing. Or you could ditch dad and head a couple of blocks north to Antone's for some bad-ass underground hip-hop featuring Murs and Tabi Bonney. Tickets for that Murs/Tabi Bonney show are still available and will only set you back about $15.
You can head, slightly east for the Quiet Company album-release celebration show at the ND as well Friday night.
One last show to mention for Friday night. It looks like Meshell Ndegeocello is actually playing two sets at the One World Theater tomorrow night. Tickets for this venue range from $20-$95, the higher-end price includes dinner and possibly a hand-job? I'm not entirely sure though as I have never been to the One World Theatre.

Moving on to Saturday night, it's all about Emo's for me. We, as a music community, only have about 6 months longer to enjoy shows at Emo's Red River location. The outside stage was shuttered a couple of weeks ago but the intimate, inside stage lives on through post-SXSW 2012. Saturday night, the members of Cymbals Eat Guitars cram themselves onto the tiny corner stage to perform tunes from their sprawling new record Lenses Alien. Tickets WILL sell-out before Saturday so grab yours now!

Holy crap, why the eff isn't The Dodos' show at Antone's sold-out yet?!?! I hope you haven't slept on the latest LP, No Color from The Dodos, it's 40 minutes of pulse-quickening bliss. I've enjoyed everything they've released but this latest LP is just pure magic. They have taken the energy of their live sets and managed to commit to to "tape". The melodies are on-point as usual but it's the truly innovative interplay between the guitar and percussion that make it a marvel. In other words, Austin you better snatch up these Dodostickets before they're gone, and if this show doesn't sell-out before the doors open tomorrow I'm going to be very disappointed in you! The tickets are only $13, which is a bargain if you ask me, and don't forget the sound at Antone's is great and their speaker stacks are suspended from the ceiling giving you better lines of site than you have at most venues.
Starting things off tomorrow night at Antone's will be The Luyas. They have been touring with some great indie and indie-minded artists in the last year or so, including Blonde Redhead as well as, bloggy-favs, Ra Ra Riot. Make sure you arrive early enough to catch their support set because this blogger predicts it's only going to take one or two more promotional cycles before The Luyas are no longer the support act. Their album, Too Beautiful To Work has lots of gems and is, certainly, worth a listen or ten. Check out their, recent, Daytrotter session for a preview of their live set.
