So hopefully I didn't alienate all of my readers with that extended hiatus but I'm back y'all. Access to the internet has returned and the town's people are rejoicing. Just in time for me to give you the heads up on a free, early show...with free beer. It's happening tomorrow night and it's brought to you by some of my favorite internet brethren. The folks over at Do512 and those crazy cats over at Better Than the Van are bringing us two bands for the price of none. It's all going down at Beerland tomorrow night starting at 7p. Finally, an event that's friendly to those of us who work at 6am. I can get drunk, get live music AND get enough sleep for my early Friday morning. You will have to RSVP to get into this event and I suggest an early arrival. Any time there's free booze there's long-ass lines.

***UPDATE***
My friends with Quiet Company sent along this link to a three song sampler EP for their latest album, Everyone You Love Will Be Happy Soon. Thanks, QC
Free Mp3's ---> Quiet Company - 3 - Song Sampler EP
I didn't even mention that the two bands performing tomorrow night are on my list of Austin bands that you should check out in '09. Obviously, one of the bands is Quiet Company, who you're hopefully listening to right now. They'll be going on first, with a 7pm set time. Imagine the sun will still be out and we'll be in the dark confines of Beerland sweating our aces off to the gentle melodies of QC...likely with Lone Stars in hand. By the way, I love that one of the comments on the YouTube page for the above video says, "The guitar player is my personal trainer". That's so Austin, the drummer might have been your waiter, bartender or massage-therapist?
This next tune from the Quiet Company might be my favorite song title ever...or at least lately. It's also very pro-economic recovery while at the same time speaking the of the truths that lead to our credit downfall in the first place, but I digress.

Going on at 8p at Beerland tomorrow will be another band to watch, Built By Snow. Honestly, I have yet to see these guys perform live but I'm pretty excited to see them tomorrow. The stuff I've heard from them is the perfect blend of pop and jangly-ness with an occasional touch of sad-bastard-punk. They also have a penchant for quirky, nerdy videos, which is always nice for me as someone who likes to post videos.

This video is a bit older and I've already posted it but I needed more evidence of their love for odd/quirky/zany/nerdy/etc. videos. What do you want to bet that one or more people in Built By Snow works at the Alamo Drafthouse, I <3 Video, or Vulcan? They seem like "film" people as opposed to movie people like you or I.

White Denim, Harlem, Built By Snow. Antones.
So, you had a bit of a music overload during SXSW this year, but that doesn't mean Austin's gonna stop y'all. There's a GREAT, cheap show over at, the legendary, Antone's tomorrow night. It's going to be a who's who of Austin pop and garage-rock.
Local heroes, White Denim will be sharing a bill with up-and-comers, Built By Snow and recent-transplants, Harlem. Tickets are only $8 in advance, $10 at the door or they cost only $5 if you head on over to Do512 and RSVP today.

More Video After the Jump...
Is it me or are these guys video game/sci-fi geeks?
Built By Snow - Drag Away video via YouTube
By the way, I don't care what you say, Built By Snow is not even aware of what a Weezer is or how it might be used. Nor have they heard any music by a band that may or may not have the name Weezer
So, during SXSW I had some friends from Boston visiting/partying with me and I really wanted them to catch Harlem. I am a big fan of Harlem's jangly, surf-garage thing, surf is the new thing have you noticed that? Anyway, at the end of the weekend we were chatting about who was going to break out and my friend specifically noted that Harlem will NOT break out. I repeat, NOT...break-out. I countered that I bet they'll be HUGE in the U.K./Japan. Austin is very big in the U.K./Japan regions of the world. Here's one of those fake videos for the "single" from Harlem's, Free Drugs;-):
Harlem - South of France video via YouTube
Here's a legit vid, "'cause I'm into shhhh that you don't even knooooooow":
Harlem - Witch Greens video via YouTube
Word on the street is, White Denim have scrapped their previous deal with Transmission Entertainment(<-----Unconfirmed rumor) and they're playing sets of completely new material. But for now here's some videos for songs you should have heard by now, COME ON!
White Denim - Shake, Shake, Shake video via YouTube
White Denim - All You Really Have To Do video via YouTube
The Genie Car Wash in this video is on S. Lamar but if you live here, you know that and if you don't, you don't care right?

Devo? What's a Devo? I wouldn't even know what to do with a Devo.

Fader Fort Re-Dux
So, they re-opened the guest list for the Fader Fort. I suggest, if you haven't done so already, that you RSVP before you do anything else!

I must confess, I'm pretty much biased to love the Fader Fort party because last year during the "Levi's 501 Happy Hour" I won a pretty easy trivia contest earning myself:
Free Levi's 'Lowers' (ie. pants, shorts, skirts etc.)
Free Levi's 'Uppers' (ie. denim meth, cotton crack, diet pills)
Free Ray Bans (<---This was the only thing chosen for me, the other stuff I got to like...pick out myself.)
AND
Free Pumas
SXSW is the time of year when it's ok to take freely from corporate America. I know what you're saying, "Hey, hasn't Corporate America given us so much already this year?" Well dear reader, the answer is yes, yes they have but something tells me there's still going to be an a**load of free shhh at South By this year.
For the record the question was, "Who won the first 'Hip-Hop/Rap' Grammy?"
Here's some free videos from some of the artists you can expect to hear for about 30 minutes at the Fader Fort:
Little Boots - Meddle video via YouTube
the Warlocks - So Paranoid video via YouTube

So, one of the bands featured on Friday Features: Taylor Hanson, James Iha, Adam Schlesinger, and Bun E. Carlos? Check out Tinted Window. I'm intrigued and am willing to withhold judgement, at least I think I am and I'm pretty sure I will. Something to keep in mind on Friday nonetheless.
the Strange Boys - Happily in Disbelief video via YouTube
Major Lazer is a collaboration project with DJ's Diplo and Switch. They are playing a Red Bull party, which you can RSVP to with an e-mail to Rsvp@uk.redbull.com, as well as the Fader Fort and I'm sure many others.
Major Lazer - Zombie? video via YouTube
The answer to the aforementioned trivia contest was DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince.

Levi's/Fader Fort RSVP Is Up
So I'm not really sure how the whole Fader Fort thing is going to work at SXSW '09. Rumor has it American Apparel has already booked the venue that was used as the Fader Fort the last couple of years. So not only is this RSVP without a line-up, it's without a venue. That is why you MUST RSVP NOW!! Get on that list soon, because they may end up getting an awesome line-up at a tiny venue. To be honest I really have no clue where this party might end up. It seems like most places would already be booked, but I'll find out within the next 8 days and let ya know.
Here's the kind of thing you might miss if you don't get on this list:
Lou Reed - Live @ theLEVI'S®/FADER FORT video via YouTube
Speaking of Mythical SXSW '09 parties, I want to get into the damn Rock the Rabbit party. It's one of those parties that has a great line-up, or at least some great bands, every year and it's "Invite Only". So I'm stalking RTR on Twitter...and trying to friend their Music editor on Facebook and Twitter. There's also a contest up re: this party over at Austinist but you shouldn't enter cause I want to win.
So much free booze...
Rock the Rabbit - C3 & Rock the Rabbit SXSW Part '08
Also, Spin usually has a kick ass party at Stubb's that is really tough to get into. I guess I should just be satisfied with the bajillionz of other options that are totally open and free and such but come on. You know you want to go more just because it's harder to get in. That's the key to throwing a good party right?
This isn't from the Spin party. It's actually just on the street, they had like a trailer set up.

RSVP Quick and Dirty
I want to preface this video, for those of you who have never been to SXSW, by saying that the audience at a typical SXSW gig is a bunch of Meta-Hipsters who can't be bothered to look like they care about whatever band is on stage. I mean, if you think about it, SX is for industry types more than it is for fans. Who else could afford those damn badges? I'm straying here, back to the video...
This takes place at the Levis/Fader Fort, it was at roughly 1 or 2 in the afternoon. The place wasn't very full, it's broad daylight and everyone is sort of casually standing around with their free drinks and cameras. Well Gallows didn't really like that...If you look real close you may spot me, I was to the camera man's right.
Gallows UK - Live @ SXSW '07 video via YouTube
You should click the word YouTube above and read the comments, it's hillarious.
Ok, so there is a quick and dirty list of RSVP links is after the jump.
My friend, Bonnie has been scouring the internets and compiled a handful of parties to RSVP.
Dandy ID
Pure Volume
SXSeattle
Talking House Records
Space Out Party
The Bay Area Take-Over
Are we getting excited yet?
Of course we are still looking/waiting for the Levi's/Fader Fort party. Last year I RSVP'd before the line-up was announce, which was good because I think the list was open for less than a week. These folks know how to book a party! Free booze (obvs it's SX), places to sit and watch a performance in a parking lot, free shiz (last year I won some Ray-Bans, Levis and Pumas(thanks)). As far as the music, well, check out last year's Line-Up.

There are a lot of shows coming up next weekend (Jan 30th and such) but I thought I'd let you know about this one a little early? Why is that, you may ask? Well because Beauty Bar is hosting Learning Secret's 5 Year Anniversary with Andy Butler from Hercules & Love Affair (DJ set), LCD Soundsystem's Pat Mahoney, Ian Orth, and Jeramy Neugent.
If you want to check this party out fo' free! Then all you have to do is R.S.V.P here. Or you can shill out the $3 bucks at the door, but that's your call cowboy.
