Planning Ahead: Ticket Linkage

2013 is really starting to ramp up now. Last night Purity Ring was in town, Cat Power will be here this weekend and that's just a teensy, tiny preview of what's in store for us this year. It'll be SXSW before you know it so you better get out there and enjoy our venues before they are plastered with Cool Ranch Doritos Tacos banners. In other words, it's time for me to post a super labor-intensive but super simple looking series of links highlighting shows you should get tickets for before they're sold-out. As usual, I want to mention that there are shows I'll be mentioning/linking to that I wouldn't, necessarily, attend myself but I feel like some of you would want to know about these shows. Also, this site is not sponsored by any of these venues but I'm not opposed if they'd like to kick me some cash, call me. Let's start with this Saturday's Cat Power show at ACL Live. I can't believe this show isn't sold-out yet?!?! Her last record, Sun is SO. FUCKING. GOOD.

Alright, so basically the way this is going to work is I'm going to straight-up list shows coming up. If you want tickets to the show click the name of the artist and the ticket link will appear in a new window. In the past, I've also linked to the venue itself but fuck that noise, it's called Google.

SXSW 2011 Preview: Toro Y Moi

So, Toro y Moi certainly isn't a band that no one has ever heard of playing SXSW to get bloggers like me to pay attention. Toro's first album garnered "the band" plenty of buzz and had his playing the festival circuit for the last couple of years in support of it. It was all of this touring that influenced the latest Toro y Moi LP. While the band was known for its warbling, woozy vintage synthesizers on their first LP the new LP is all live instrumentation accentuated with the sounds of more traditional instruments. The result is something that sometimes sounds like a new Stereolab LP and sometimes sounds like 70's funk all in all I'm a big fan and I can't wait to hear these new songs performed live.

Like all of the artists I've featured so far, you will have many chances to catch Toro y Moi at SXSW both at official and unofficial events.

Wednesday March 16th Toro play Red 7 for the Forcefield Pr and Terrorbird Media party, which is free and unoffical.

On Thursday March 17th you can catch 'em at Waterloo Records for a free, in-store set. Followed by an official SXSW showcase later in the night at the 512 Rooftop.

On Friday, March 18th you'll have more chances official and unofficial to catch Toro. Firstly, they'll be playing the, always excellent, Windish Agency party at Emo's. Followed by, the also free, Pitchfork presents #Offline party at East Side Drive-In. Later on Friday night, it's another official SXSW showcase, this time at Klub Krucial at 10:30pm.

Saturday, March 19th, Toro y Moi's first show is an official SXSW day-show at the Austin Convention Center. As of this moment, that is all Toro has goin' on Saturday, which is nice considering they play THREE sets on Friday. However, I doubt that Saturday at 1:30p will be the last set they play at SXSW 2011. Only time will tell.

SXSW 2010 Preview: Toro y Moi

Toro y Moi is the work of Chaz Bundick. The album, Causers of This is simultaneously drowsy, glitchy, hypnotic and somehow it all comes across as being really sincere and fun. His names seems to be on everyone's lips lately so you'll have more chances to catch Toro y Moi than you had with some of the other artists I've featured. I know last time I was at End of an Ear we were discussing how much equipment he might be bringing to perform in their store on Saturday the 20th. You can find their full in-store performance line-up here.

This track kind of gives me a Panda Bear meets Neon Indian vibe but keep in mind this is only one soundscape featured on the album.

Figure out where you can catch Toro y Moi after the jump...

Per usual, I have culled these dates from the Do512 SXSW directory. It doesn't, necessarily, represent all of the shows the artist may or may not be playing. Think of this more as some ideas you might want to consider/keep in mind whilst wandering the streets of Austin.

Wed 03/17 @ the Mohawk. *Free Day Party*
Wed 03/17 @ Red 7. *Free Day Party*
Thu 03/18 @ Urban Outfitters *Free Day Party*
Fri 03/19 @ the French Legation Museum *Free Day Party*

It looks like Toro y Moi will also be playing a show the Monday following SXSW at a venue and time to be determined later. I'm pretty sure I won't have any issues with catching one of their many free sets. I plan to be downtown early on Wedensday (the 17th).
