Last week we had British Sea Power at the Mohawk, tomorrow we get Foals at La Zona Rosa. If you're like me and you get to jonesin' for brit-pop then you're in heaven right now. Sure Foals are a little angular/proggy/post-punk to be straight-up brit-pop I am definitely putting them under that umbrella. Besides, if you have heard anything from their latest album, Total Life Forever then you know they have mellowed out quite a bit. They haven't lost their sound but they definitely ease into the grooves a lot more. Where before they were most definitely trying to get you to pogo and dance now they are equally interested in having you listen. Foals are on Sub Pop Records so I'd suggest head on over to their site and download some sample music and videos. I hate to keep doing this to y'all but unfortunately Thursday night's Foals show is sold-out. I'm tellin' ya La Zona Rosa is kickin' ass with this week's bookings!

Playing the slot before Foals tomorrow night will be, Bloggy-favs, Freelance Whales. Those of you who have been loyal readers of this site know that I highly-approve of Freelance Whales and their anthemic indie-rock music. I have had the pleasure of seeing them perform several times and they seem to get better with each trip through Austin. If I were you I would listen to your copy of Weathervanes several times before the show so you can sing along with everyone else. Call me a sicko but there's something very magical/cathartic about joining a mass of people in singing "Flesh! Into the ground again!"

Freelance Whales at the ND
I'm not gonna lie, y'all I expected Freelance Whales to be the break-out act of 2010 and I'm kind of disappointed that they haven't reached an Arcade Fire level of fame yet. These kids write sincere, anthemic tunes that should be heard in arenas where 10's of 1000's of voices can sing along and feel their power. Am I over-selling this? Let me try again. Have you heard of the Freelance Whales? They aight. You might want to check out their show at the ND tomorrow night. Tickets are on sale now (obvs) and will set you back a mere $10 in advance or $12 at the door. If you haven't been to the ND yet I highly recommend it, the space is intimate with good sound and you can actually find parking nearby, which is a major plus in my book.

Doors for the show open at 9p and the show itself starts at 10. I can't remember how much they charge for Lone Star and/or well liquor so I have no advice in that regard. I can tell you that Miniature Tigers will be starting things off with their own brand of clever indie-rock, though. Their latest LP is called Fortress but I'm still going to post this video from their previous LP, Tell It to the Volcano because I find it to be funny and enjoyable.

Sp, if you're a sensitive indie-boy or girl I would head on down to the ND tomorrow night and have a truly earnest experience with Freelance Whales and Miniature Tigers. Maybe we can hang out and you can buy me whiskey cause I'm poor. Not too much though, I work early on Fridays. Awwphuckit! I can go in hungover, bring on the Whiskey y'all!

SXSW 2010 Preview: Freelance Whales
I don't care what Rolling Stone thinks, I'm a big fan of the upcoming Freelance Whales album. The official release date for Weathervanes has been pushed back to April but the Whales have already been tapped to play the always-stellar Levi's Fader Fort party at SXSW this year. So, chances are they've got a big bright future once that record hits stores. They've already been featured on Stereogum and their impromptu performances at various locales through NYC has already garnered them much praise/buzz. I'm looking forward to the energy of their live performance. I'm expecting something along the lines of an Arcade Fire show although those are pretty high expectations but that would be nice wouldn't it?

Find out when and where you may or may not catch the Freelance Whales at SXSW after the break.
All of the shows I'm listing here I have culled from the Internet Jedis over at Do512. Also, it should be noted that I haven't listed the aforementioned Levis Fader Fort because at the time of my writing this the line-up hasn't been released.
Wed 03/17 @ Galaxy Room (Formerly Radio Room/Bourbon Rocks) *Free Day-Party*
Thu 03/18 @ Yard Dog Gallery *Free Day-Party*
Fri 03/19 @ Galaxy Room *Official SXSW Showcase*
Sat 03/20 @ Red Eyed Fly *Free Day-Party*
Sat 03/20 @ the Mohawk *Free Day-Party*
I should mention that a lot of the above-mentioned "free shows" are free with RSVP you can find on the links on that Do512 page linked above. That's way too much coding for Bloggy. I'm what's known as a "lazy blogger", now watch this video.
