Del, Scissor Sisters, Get Yer Weekend On!

Oh man, TGIF like a mo fo y'all! I can't wait to watch a new Urkel tonight, see what Stacy Keach is up to on Step By Step oh wait a second. That was me from 1991 talking for a minute there. What is Stacy Keach up to these days? Meanwhile, back in 2011 you should hit the Mohawk tomorrow night to see a free show with Del The Funky Homosapien. I'm not sure why it's free and I don't really care, all I know is there is no cover charge I love me some Del and I'll get to "go ham sandwich" with the Knuckle Rumbler crew. Del's going to be backed by a live-band with a DJ so even if you're a rock-head not a hip-hop-head you should enjoy the show. Besides, it's Del not some lame-ass emcee, so you should enjoy the show anyway. Doors for this show open at 8pm and I only know of one opening act but chances are there will be more than just two sets. Either that or Del is going to spit his whole catalog, to be honest I would not be surprised by either scenario.

So, now we've got your Saturday night all sorted out over at the Mohawk, let's talk about Sunday. Well, as mentioned earlier in the week, you could spend all your rent money to watch Janet Jackson lip-sync her ass off over at ACL-Live or you could get yourself over to Stubb's for the Scissor Sisters show! Y'all know I love me some Janet but I'm not trying to spend all my money on that performance. For $200+ bucks I could hire a VERY convincing tranny to perform Janet covers for me and Miss Paws all night. That's why you'll find me shakin' my ass to Jake Shears & Co., drooling over Baby Daddy and, generally, losing my shit at the Scissor Sisters show. It doesn't LOOK like tickets are available at the moment but you can always head down there and negotiate with people in the street. Also, I've definitely gifted tickets to strangers outside venues on more than one occasion so don't give-up hope y'all!

Since it's a Sunday night the Scissor Sisters show will be over pretty early in the night but fret not! My homegrrrrrls over at The Glitoris are hosting an after-party at Barbarella that night. You get in free with evidence that you attended Scissor Sisters and/or Janet Jackson. No, covering yourself in glitter is not enough evidence, they're going to need to see a wristband or ticket-stub. Nice try tranny-Ke$ha.

Del, Metric, Tuesday

Have y'all been to this place Ace's Lounge yet? I'm somewhat dismayed that the banner on their website says, "The Official Live Music Venue of College". Does that appeal to you? 'Cause it doesn't appeal to me in the least bit, does it mean that I should invest in some Ed Hardy gear? Will all the people in the crowd refer to me as, "that old dude who's not dancing"? I like Del tha Funky Homosapien but if the sound is muddy and I'm surrounded by chatty college kids, I'm out! On a plus side Tuesday night's show at Ace's featuring Del, among others, is presented by my friends over at Knuckle Rumbler so I'm thinking they'll take care of any muddy mic issues that may ensue. You can grab yourself some tickets for $18.

So, if you're thinking, "I don't want to hang out with a bunch of college kids trying to hear Del", fret not! Metric is playing over in the warehouse district at La Zona Rosa at the same time. Tickets for Metric will set you back $23 , but you can get a tall well drink for $4 so it will balance out. Besides, the latest Metric LP, Fantasies is pretty killer and promises to be really good in person.

While I'm bitching and whining about different venues in the city, what's up with Radio Room/Bourbon Rocks? I just drove down 6th St. in daylight, which is quite depressing by the way, and I noticed the old Radio Room still sitting vacant. I thought Trannymission Entertainment bought that joint? So, how come it's for sale/lease and still not fabulous? Remember when we saw that band there at SXSW? That was cool.

Also, I think that Symphony Square should be utilized more. Seems like a great place to see a quiet(ish) artist like Bon Iver or Kings of Convenience. The biggest problem is it's such a small seating capacity (350), but that could be solved with multiple nights by an artist or tough luck mo fo buy tickets faster. Imagine seeing Sigur Ros at Symphony Square?!?! What Austin venue could suit a band like Sigur Ros? I've seen them several times and the best venue was at the Berklee College of Music. The space has perfect acoustics and the audience was so reverent and quiet, it was like the waiting room in heaven.

This Generation Rules the Nation With Version (?)

So, yesterday I told you all about the shows you could and would see tonight, Friday. Now I'm going to focus on your Saturday. Firstly I should mention again that Reggae Fest '09 is scheduled to take place at Auditorium Shores tomorrow and Sunday. I'm not really sure if they cancel/re-schedule if it rains or not. I'm going to guess not though, if Jah wants rain, Jah shall have rain eh??

To me Reggae Fest isn't necessarily about who's scheduled to perform, it's more about the atmosphere and the genre. So, I'm not going to get into all those specifics of artists and showtimes.

Anyway, other than Reggae, the show I'm most excited about tomorrow night has GOT to be Del tha Funky Homosapien playing Emo's outside. Del and Dan the Automator are the reason for the numbers in my online moniker, birkley3030.
