ACL After-Parties

Alright kids, today is the day if you want to buy yourself tickets to OFFICIAL ACL after-shows this year. Tickets went on sale this morning at 10am Austin time, so if you wanted to catch David Byrne at the Paramount Theatre...you're too late. That's right the box office has been open an hour, which means the hottest tickets are all gone, or close to it.

I spent a bunch of money but I bought a ticket for all the shows I was even mildly interested in seeing. Except for Black Keys tickets, I didn't buy any for that show 'cause I bought a ticket for the Conor Oberst, M. Ward and Jenny Lewis show, which is on the same night, on the other side of town. I did, however, pick up a ticket for the Gnarls Barkley/CSS show AND a ticket for Jamie Lidell with Black Joe Lewis and the Honey Bears. Even though those shows are on the same night. Their start times are two hours apart and the venues are pretty close to each other so I'm hoping it all works out nicely.

Don't worry if you didn't get tickets to any after parties, you can still buy tickets for the actual Austin City Limits fest for a mere $80/day. Also, I expect a lot more after-parties. None of the official parties are at Transmission Entertainment events, which means you can expect a wave of blog-sponsored parties at the Mohawk, Club DeVille and others. In fact I know for sure that Sunset Rubdown will be doing a show at the Mohawk the Saturday night of ACL fest. Technically Sunset Rubdown isn't even playing ACL so I guess it's not really an after show...but you get the point.

Oh and by the way one of my favorites of the year, Cut Copy will be playing Emo's the Monday after ACL.

Woo Hoo am I excited or what? And I'm not even going to the official ACL festival haha.

Speaking of ACL

For those of you not in Austin you should know that ACL is Austin speak for the Austin City Limits Festival not to be confused with Austin City Limits, which is what people call the show on PBS. Anyway, so today is schedule launch day, a very exciting day in the city because now we get to start planning. You can decide which stage you want to commit to or make a plan for which day you want to attend. That's right, today is also the day to purchase passes for individual days at a cost of $80/day.



This will be my first August in Austin so I have never done ACL fest in the past. To be honest I am not very excited about cooking in the 100 degree heat for days on end to catch a 45 minute indie rock set. I'm thinking I may buy a single day pass but most likely I will just rock it like I do SXSW, which is to say, do all the free stuff that's outside the official event. Last year there were a lot of ACL after-parties downtown and to me that's where it's really at. I'd much rather see one band in one small venue than 15 bands at one HUGE venue. Also, they usually do a few taping for Austin City Limits the show featuring some of the biggest/up-and-coming bands from ACL festival, in August.

But check out the schedule and let me know what would be your biggest conflicts. For me it's Jamie Lidell VS. Jose Gonzalez. But it looks like people will also have to choose either the Raconteurs or Gnarls Barkley. That's the problem with so many bands spread across 5 stages over the course of three days...one of the problems. For my money, I would choose the middle day.

Going On w/ GB

While I'm not a big fan of Gnarls Barkley's latest effort the Odd Couple it definitely has its moments. Kudos to Kanye for pointing one of them out.



I miss videos sometimes. I went them free, podcast style, on my iPod...but if I'm being honest I probably wouldn't watch 'em that much anyway.
