New Videos of Note

I don't usually write posts that are simply to let people know about music videos but there are at least three that I'm really excited about right now so I figured why the hell not?

The first video comes from one of my favorite up-and-coming bands, Caveman. If you've never seen me gushing about how much I love their music then you just haven't been paying attention. In The City is from Caveman's self-titled sophomore LP available for purchase right now. I can tell you right now it's going to be in my top 3 albums of 2013.

Former Austin band, Brazos has a new record due out next Tuesday and this video for Charmer is a great representation of its pop-majesty. You can pre-order Saltwater today, you won't regret it later.

Speaking of pop-majesty, Generationals also released a video today. Spinoza is on Generationals' latest LP Heza. If you haven't purchased their new record yet, may I suggest you buy it from the band when they play the Parish on June 2nd?

Autobus Records Showcase at Stubb's

Some of my favorite blogger-types have teamed up with one of my favorite local record labels to showcase some of Austin's most talented artists at Stubb's tonight. Obviously, this is going to be an inside show as I can't see these up and coming artists filling the amphitheater...YET. Autobus Records is home to two of Bloggy's favorite locals, Sunset and Brazos. Sunset won't be performing tonight but you can catch the beautiful songcraft of Brazos. Full details about tonight's Do512/Covert Curiosity event can be found here. So, to be honest I am not YET familiar with most of the artists showcasing tonight, but I do know it will cost $7 to get in and that includes free Lone Star till it runs out. So, that's always nice, however as someone who also works in the service industry might I add that the tip is NOT included in your FREE drink. Make it rain people.

Mark David Ashford seems to be the 2nd tier headliner tonight so let's check out his sound shall we?

Wow, I really liked that song. See people this is why you have to go tonight, Autobus has some amazing songwriters and performers and the intimate feel of Stubb's inside stage will be the perfect setting to hear what these artists are really talking about. Unless you get too distracted by the free beer and can't managed to STFU. But that's neither here nor there.

Also, I haven't even mentioned the fact that Martin Crane from Brazos will be doing a solo set to lead in to the Brazos set, which should be pretty much amazing. SXSW 2010 Preview (Locals Only): Brazos

To be honest, I don't understand why Brazos isn't nationally successful yet. They've been churning out perfect indie-pop all over Austin for years and their album Phosphorescent Blues rules. It's for these reasons that I would like to call your attention to Austin's poorly-kept-secret, Brazos. You can actually catch them, along with many other great Austin bands, tonight! The Mohawk is hosting the ATX Emerge show, which is basically a showcase of the best Austin has to offer this year for all of our out of town guests. You can catch me down there but I'll probably have to leave in the middle of Sunset's set as I work at 6:30am tomorrow. Sorry, Sunset I <3 you but you know how it is when that alarm goes off round 5am.

Are we excited about SXSW now or what?!?!

{{{Sunset}}} Tonight, Balmorhea Tomorheah?

As the "resident blogger"/"hipster-douche" at work, I'm expected to know the answer to the questions, "So, what's going on tonight? Where should I go?". Today, when posed with these questions I totally blanked out. It's effing Thursday in Austin so you know some shh is going down. My bloggy brethren over at the Peen Scene always have a great, comprehensive answer to what's the haps tonight, in case you catch me slackin' again. Check the blog list in my sidebar for other, informative, talented, witty, bloggy brethren of Austin as well. Tonight, Austin Bloggy recommends you check out one of my favorite, local acts {{{Sunset}}}.

I still need to get my ears on a copy of their latest release from Autobus, Gold Dissolves to Gray but as I've said in the past, the show is the best place to get the album y'all. Find {{{Sunset}}} at Aces Lounge tonight. The door will cost you a measley $5, show starts at 10? Presumably.

Have you ever heard anyone commit to a metaphor as whole-heartedly as {{{Sunset}}} does in that song, Civil War?

I wanted to mention a show for tomorrow night as well, give you a little more notice than the show at Ace's tonight. You should head on over to the Mohawk to see Balmorhea. I'm a big fan of both the artwork and the music of their latest LP, All Is Wild, All Is Silent. Not to mention, it's just as beautiful as seen in real life.

To be honest, I know little to nothing about this Ola Podrida fellow, but I do know he's is playing the 'Hawk tomorrow night. The songs I found seemed pleasant and fitting for a chilly winter eve in Austin, TX. I also know, he's not to be confused with Olla podrida, which is something completely different. Also, check out this little blurb from the official Ola Podrida site.

After months of preparation, the live incarnation of Ola Podrida will play their debut show at The Mohawk in Austin, TX on December 11th with labemates Balmorhea. The live band features Colin Swietek on guitar, David McComb on bass, and Matthew Frank on drums, and David Wingo on vocals and guitar.
